Molly and I up early. Molly and 3 friends hopped a ride to the ferry as I was going there anyway. They are to spend the day shopping and then make their way home on their own (bus/ferry).
I tripped off to Vancouver to get the remaining Ikea stuff. Valerie booked me on a 9:30am ferry and a 7:00pm ferry returning. The 9:30am ferry was nearly empty (we left on the old/backup ferry). I noticed a pool of oil under the Defender and guessed it was transmission oil. Long story short – I thought the plug had come out so I carved up a bit of arbutus and ‘screwed it in’. I found out a bit later that this was not the plug hole and that the oil was coming from a possible leaking seal higher up.
I purchased some transmission oil and will top it up when I get home (or sooner).
Google maps got me to the Ikea warehouse and I soon had the remaining bit on the trailer and was heading home. Unfortunately; I found myself in some serious grid-lock just a few minutes later. It took me an hour to get the on-ramp – just a few k away. Then again – I had 5 hours to get to the ferry, a cooler box for cold cans of coke and sandwich stuff. I turned up the music and had lunch.
I got to the ferry without knowing which ferry I was likely to get. I had my laptop and a fridge full of snacks and cans of coke. I was prepared for a long wait. I drove down the hill to get in line but just kept on driving – straight on to the ferry. Nice!
