Sechelt has adopted a new garbage policy. The jist of it is… the garbage pickup will be reduced from every week to every other week. We will get a new green box for kitchen waste and it will be picked up every week. We get a small tax increase to pay for it.
We produce less than a ball cap of kitchen waste a week so I have to find a way to cancel the delivery of the new green bin. I will have to take yet more trips to the dump for regular garbage. Furthermore; I am pretty sure the standardized garbage bin will not fit on my oil drum – my current (and working perfectly) bear proof solution.
So; a reduction in service, an increase in tax, and an increase in bear problems for me. Not happy!
Most of all – IMHO – this is an anti-family (or family insensitive) policy. A mis guided, half baked, effort to be more environmentally friendly. Low occupancy households will not care much but there is only one real winner here and its WM Corp. who has to deal with a 50% drop in garbage proper while collecting more revenue (presumably because our taxes are going up).
A new ByLaw (in the works) will force all multi-family buildings to build a garbage room. I guess this may make sense for condos but what about Secondary Suites? Yet another increase in building costs when we are trying to make affordable housing a reality? Who thinks of this stuff?
Molly will be using the Jag for her driving test as the Fiat has an issue and time is short for her to practice.
Maggie was on the Coast for the weekend. We had; her, Seb and a friend over for dinner tonight. It was a low key birthday party for Maggie.
After dinner (Greek) we did a visit to the Deerhorn property.
